Colour Loss and Fading

One of the main causes of colour loss or fading in textiles is exposure to light, especially bright sunlight.

It is particularly noticeable in curtains where the effect of sunlight on the fabric causes stripes of light and dark to appear.

Sunlight causes a loosening of the colour dyes which result in the dye being washed out during either wet or dry cleaning. This is why fading is more obvious after cleaning and can sometimes lead to the incorrect notion that the fading is the fault of the cleaner.

Tips:

Be very careful when you buy a garment that has been on display in a shop window.

Do not leave garments in your car.
